DTS 96/24

DTS 96/24 offers a higher quality level on multi-channel audio (up to 5.1 channels) for standard DVDs. The "96" refers to a 96kHz sampling rate (compared to the typical 48kHz sampling rate.) The "24" refers to 24-bit depth, compared to 16-bit depth used for CD sound, which means there is more audio information present. Like the other DTS extensions, DTS 96/24 is backward-compatible (older receivers will output a standard 48kHz signal).
The higher sampling rate of 96KHz captures super-high frequencies, which have harmonic overtones that drift down into your hearing spectrum. This delivers a more realistic ambient sound-field effect; when listening to music, it’s like you’re right there with the musicians. And during a movie, the dialogue is so clear, the actors seem to be in the room with you. Plus, 24-bit depth (vs. typical 16-bit) provides extended dynamic range, on a level with professional audio. When played back on a DTS 96/24 capable receiver, DTS 96/24 content delivers better frequency response, tonal accuracy, and dynamic range.
